A master's journey into the heart of Commedia dell' Arte.

Master mask-maker Andrea Cavarra, plays tribute and testimony to the long history of Commedia dell' Arte in western theatre, both historic and contemporary.

Commedia dell' Arte is today accepted as the birth of professional theatre in Europe. The reach of this theatrical genre is so vast that it is considered the grounds on which the masters have built their imperishable legacy, such as Shakespeare, Molière, Calderon de la Barca.

Following the mask- making workshops for Savvy Renard in Fribourg, Cavarra presented his performance "Il Mascheraio." Working with the audience and improvisation, Cavarra takes us back to the beginnings of catharsis, its geographical birth right, and manages to bring each element to our everydayness in a permanent evocation of life.

The characters of Commedia dell' Arte exist today, the narrative of their stories present in our society, ever reaching the urgency of our conflicted world.
